Go to Device Manager and "Show Hidden Devices". Under "Non-Plug and Play
Drivers" you'll see an item named "Beep". Disable that and the "random beep"
disappears. Once done, of course, you can hide the hidden devices again.
One way to get to the device manager is to right click on my computer --> properties --> hardware --> device manager

Disablign the BEEP device was the 2nd thing done after a fresh XP install. The beep can be annoying.

Yes, there is a way to do it.

You can turn off the "Beep" device via the Device Manager.

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

Does it do this before or after Windows is loaded?

IF it happens after, you might try turning the unit off, removing the battery and power supply, then disassemble your unit so you can reseat the connection to the thinkpad's keyboard. If that doesn't work you might want to call Lenovo and have a technician run through some troubleshooting with you. Hopefully you still have warranty coverage!
