Generic HDDs and SODIMMS for the T42?
Generic HDDs and SODIMMS for the T42?
It seems like you can get almost ANY genuine IBM Thinkpad upgrade cheaper on eBay than direct from IBM. I fully realize that the guarantees and service from IBM are far better than eBay sellers, so please don't tell me that.
My question is, the SODIMMS and HDDs that are specifically labeled as genuine IBM or Thinkpad T4x compatible are substantially more expensive than generic PC2700 SODIMMS or generic HDDs that have the same specs as the IBM parts.
Who has tried using the generic parts and did they work or is there something specific that has to been spec'd in the parts for them to work?

You don't have to get IBM branded...I wouldn't trust them off of Ebay or being 'generic' (do you mean not branded, or non IBM?)
Check www.newegg.com and www.zipzoomfly.com
Both have great prices...
