what is my t42p worth today?

#1 Post by pearl0 » Sun Jul 30, 2006 9:56 pm

I have looked on Ebay for verification but would also like to hear from some of you on here what my t42p is worth.

It is 2 years old and in like brand new condition. Babied the whole time with no scratches, never dropped. The model is 2379DYU and has 1 GB of ram which was an upgrade.

I am not looking to sell it on here, just have someone local that would like to buy it and I want to determine a far price for both of us.

I have seen them on Ebay new going for $1200.00 - 1500.00. I was thinking $1000.00 initally but would like some input from you guys.

All info is appreciated. TIA and let me know what you think.

Paul

I'm from the UK but on eBay here, I'd say they're worth 750 GBP whereas the T41p is worth 650 GBP and the T43p is worth brand new 1000 GBP minimum. Those are prices I've regularly seen them go for.

So do the calculation on XE.com and....

by that metric it's worth 1399 USD. so it might be worth considering flogging it in the UK or at least international bidding. Good luck

Keeping in mind that the T41p had a 14.1" non-flexview only, and this is a 15" UXGA, i'd say - roughly $1400 like the above poster said, it depends also of the condition of the unit, dead pixels and the like. But it seems like it is in near mint condition. It is worth more overseas because of the inflated prices, and because of lower taxes in the US. If you sold it overseas this model i think would sell for up to $2000.

If the memory you upgraded with was a 1GB module and not 2x512, this is something that also drives the price up.

Milk it for what it's worth instead of pasting from someone elses listing, list all your features with some pictures. Of the screen and keyboard etc. show it's condition and state everything about it. The warranty will be very good.

The "P" suffixed T4x series are workstation class. This tends to mean that they come with: 9-cell battery, better graphics cards usually workstation class, 1GB RAM standard usually and 7200RPM hard drive.

They are well renowned.

I bought a 14" T42 for $650 with the following:
1.7 P-M Dothan
512MB memory
40GB HDD
1400x1050 SXGA+
64MB Radeon 9600 Mobility
2200BG 802.11b/g
Fingerprint Reader
brand new 6-cell
2 years on-site warranty int'l until 2008

If 350 is worth the additional HDD, Memory, GFX, and battery then so be it, but the onsite warranty is what I wanted. I wouldn't think I would notice the T42p extras, but I did upgrade to 1GB with a piece from Kingston, and I had a 60GB HDD that I swapped.

That's a pretty good deal there. Most important piece there is the 14x15 14.1'' screen, in my opinion. Helps taht you've got a Dothan. But you'd notice an increase in performance with the 7200 RPM HDD. (You can easily replace that yourself though so there's not much point in paying the extra for it)

eBay. I was lucky enough because it was a 725 BIN with a Best Offer. I asked the seller if 650 would be acceptable, he said OK, and I got it a bit later. :)
