Wireless connection speed

#1 Post by c888a » Fri Aug 13, 2004 6:28 pm

I have a T42P with IBM a/b/g. I found that with the WLAN connection to my 802.11g D-Link, the IBM Access Connections shows 48 or 54Mbps while the Wireless network Connection shows 108Mbps. Why are they different? Which is real?

I think it's possibly because your router sends out 2 channels worth of 54 mbps to attain the 108 mbps, while the monitoring software in your laptop is only measuring one primary channel.

My G router beams out on channel 6 (cos I told it to) and I get all this info from access connections too. However, if I do the firmware shuffle (your left leg in, your left leg out etc.) I can get up to 108 mbps (cos it's a D-Link and D-Link do things like that) out of the router but I haven't the foggiest idea if my T42 would be able to use it.

Why? Well usually I have to use an updated PCMCIA wireless card that has had it's firmware flashed to receive and transmit on two channels at once. Which suggests there MAY be a fix (or it's already fixed) for Access Connections - not knowing, can't say
