Cannot uninstall wireless drivers
Cannot uninstall wireless drivers
Hi,
I have been having the usual access connections wireless problems with version 4.12. I tried removing and readding AC but no difference although the machine boots much faster without AC...
I wanted to try a clean install on the wireless drivers(Intel Pro 2915) and proset software but I have tried several times and it will not uninstall.
It looks sorta like it did and the machine tells you to restart but when it is done the driver is listed in device manager with an exclamation point. How the heck do I do a real uninstall so I can try to clean this T43 up short of nuking the drive and reinstalling the OS?
P.S. Has anyone taken a look lately at the Lenovo downloads page for the T43? You will be surprised because everything is for a G40!!!
What is with these people? Since Lenovo took over, the software support from them has been just HORRIBLE!! I really miss IBM...
Thanks.....

If I am not mistaken, there a three ways to uninstall the software. You can use Software Installer to uninstall it. You can go to Windows Add or Remove programs, and uninstall it from there. Or you can go to C:\DRIVERS\WIN\WLANINT\ and run setup.exe in that directory.
When you reboot, Windows will try and install the driver using the Found Hardware Wizard. When the Found Hardware Wizard pops up, choose Cancel. You will still see a device with a yellow exclaimation mark next to it in Device Manager, but that is a Windows thing.
Once you have Cancelled the Found Hardware Wizard, you can then reinstall the Intel Software for the card. If you do not have a chance to Cancel the Found Hardware Wizard, you may have to clean up the entries in the registry.

Have you tried actually taking out the card (hardware) then removing the driver? Removing the hardware will stop the OS from trying to re-install the drivers.
Once the card is removed, uninstall the drivers and reboot. You should have a 'clean' Device Mgr. Once it is clean, run the install for the driver you version you want, then insert the card again.

Well option one and two would not work, so what I did was to boot the system, go into the Drivers\folder where setup.exe for intel pro is located and just reinstalled from there. I could see during the install it was working right again....Then reinstalled AC 4.12 did the reboot and all works fine once again!!!
Something from the software installer must have corrupted parts of the intel drivers because it sorta worked but not really...
Now all works once again as it should, at least until the next update!
Thanks Everyone!
