NON-IBM Wifi on T4X

OK, I tried it, I have some non IBM 802.11b cards and they DO work in a T40!!!
The only "lost" function is that the wifi light on the screen bezel won't light up.
Otherwise, works great.
I sell these for $50.00, they also work in the T30 and the T23 (with antenna), and I think they should work in just about any "BIOS LOCKED" ThinkPad that takes a mini-pci wifi card.
I'm going to pick up a bunch in around a week, I do have a good source, so if anyone wants, drop me a line.

Are you talking about the Lucent/Agere ones? (They show up as 3rd pcmcia). If so, they work on every Thinkpad there is, since they are within the IBM range of cards. Quite good cards, work perfectly with linux too. I have 2 so if any UK buyer wants one, let me know.

I've got a toshiba version of the lucent orinoco in question in my X31 - very good card and you can disable the radio to save power using the client manager. Not quite so simple as the FN+F5 but it was cheap

Doesn't the X31 use MCPI wifi?

it uses mini-pci for wireless the same as the T4x do.

MPCI is IBM shorthand for mini-PCI.

The WiFi models come with the Intel PRO 2100 card.
