T41 Fan Noise

#1 Post by johnson5001 » Sat Aug 14, 2004 12:34 pm

I updated the embedded controller and bios, my fan is still as noisy as before with AC plugged in. The computer isn't doing anything extensive other than surfing the web and word processing.

Any idea how to manually adjust the fan speed or ways to reduce the noice? Are any T41 users experiencing the same thing?

T4xx series fan noises:

Thinkpads with a long fan, basically those with a fast 3D Chip such as Radeon 9600, behave differently when it comes to cooling. I have read that long fans don't have this annoying 5-sec-howling.
T41P is equipped with the long fan and with the update, seem to have no problem.

I am not sure which fan I got, but I have the Radeon 9000 video card. Even so, if I don't have the long fan, does IBM allow customer to request for the long fan?
