I tried it out - Its awesome!!
I personally dont use any of the IBM stuff any more - especially since NHC has all the features.

Yes there is. NHC takes over the ACPI controls and TP Fan Control will continue to "beep" (ie: Error!) and wont be able to change the fan settings.gunston wrote:do you use NHC with TP Fan control?djpharoah wrote:I tried it out - Its awesome!!

any software conflict???
However using NHC its easy to undervolt your cpu - thus defeating the fan control

oh, don't you think RM clock utility is another good tool for undervolting?djpharoah wrote:Yes there is. NHC takes over the ACPI controls and TP Fan Control will continue to "beep" (ie: Error!) and wont be able to change the fan settings.gunston wrote: do you use NHC with TP Fan control?

Frankly I havent tried RM clock utility but seeing as how NHC monitors temps, undervolts and displays a battery applet to view battery life - I really have no need for any other program.gunston wrote:oh, don't you think RM clock utility is another good tool for undervolting?djpharoah wrote: Yes there is. rm clock is fine, but NHC is a lot more user friendly (to me) and has some more features. For some reason, NHC conflicts with thinkpad fancontrol for some people, and unfortunately I am one of those people, so i have to use rm clock instead. I am perfectly satisfied with rm clock though.djpharoah wrote:Frankly I havent tried RM clock utility but seeing as how NHC monitors temps, undervolts and displays a battery applet to view battery life - I really have no need for any other program.

I have a T42(specs below). I'm just wondering how to check if your fans are still working without conflict with NHC. I just installed nhc and i cant seem to hear my fan. my cpu is about 48-54C and hdd at about 39-43C. Does the fan kick in at like 60C(cpu) or so? is there a program diagnostic to check if the TP fans are operational?
Thanks
Parzan
PS. NHC is amazing

The reason you dont hear your fan that often is because of two reasons.
1) You have a Dothan core CPU - made on the .09 micron fabrication thus its extremely cooler . Also its Thermal Output is 21W.
2) Thinkpads have also a very laid back kinda of fan control. Remember they are meant for business....and not gaming..

It's not that your fans will stop working, it's that thinkpad fancontrol will stop controlling the fans. When you open up tpfancontrol and look at the 'log' at the bottom, it will say "Warning: Can't read status (possible conflict with other software)" over and over, and I think tpfancontrol will automatically quit after a certain number of those in a row. If that isn't happening, it's fineParzanM wrote:I have a T42(specs below). I'm just wondering how to check if your fans are still working without conflict with NHC. That, by the way, should not happen so easily with the service version. I used to get frequent errors until I modified the reading method (and the modified method is used in the service version).Jmmmmm wrote: It's not that your fans will stop working, it's that thinkpad fancontrol will stop controlling the fans. I didn't like the way the new version disable the TP battery maximizer icon on the task bar and replaced it with its own that doesn't link to the TP's battery management/info tools. So I too went back to the previous version which co-exists more gracefully with some TP utilities that I like.

Indeed... that's what I'm looking for ACPI support.simms wrote:Did anyone get the ACPI to work? Or the ATI Powerplay?
edit: looking at docs, it doesn't seem that complicated... might try and see if I can add support for Thinkpad T series this weekend if I can get a chance to play with this.
edit2: so far doesn't seem possible due to limitations in the design for NHC... I'll try and contact the author and find out more.
