Woohoo I score a heck of a deal on a T42!

#1 Post by XyKo » Mon Aug 07, 2006 6:33 pm

Just bought me a used T42 that's pretty loaded. Thanks to craigslist. The seller was an IT manager in some big company and have upgraded to a up-to-date laptop. He need a strong laptop for server, etc.

So, like every fatwalleter/craigslist I emailed the seller and picked up the laptop within an hour.

Specs:
T42 2379
1.7ghz
1.5gig ram
ATI 9600 64mb
60gb hd
15" LCD (how can I tell if I have flexview?)
and 2 years of warranty left.

and the price I paid was $400 cash!!!

He doesn't even care about the price because he got it for free from work.

"One man's junk, is another man's treasure."

Also, is the restore CDs free or they're charging for them now. I just want to put a ghost image in the laptop, since he format everything.

Just tell them that the hd got corrupted and IBM will ship a set of revovery cd's for free because you are still under warranty.

That is an almost unbeatable price. I am glad that you were able to find it. Craigslist does sometimes have unbelivable legitimate deals. However one must always be careful before purchasing too good to be true deals out there.

Always ask for a serial number to check with IBM if it is a stolen laptop or even with local police.

If you still need the recovery CD's, I will be more than happy to burn you a copy of the ones IBM sent me. All I ask is that you cover the cost of the media and shipping. Lets say ~$8.00.

Congratulations on your find,

Yeah, this is my second T42 from craigslist. First one was a year ago for $700 with lower specs then this. Yeah, the seller was happy to provide the serial number and I double check with IBM before purchasing it.

Funny thing was, when I went to pick it up. I mapquest the address in a different town. Went there and was like, this is not a business place and waited anxiously with my money. The seller end up calling me and was like, "I'm in the lobby where are you?"

After a couple of minutes, I found out that I was in the wrong town. LOL
