T42 PROBLEMS ON ARRIVAL
T42 PROBLEMS ON ARRIVAL
Hello, everyone. I have two problems with a T42 I have just received:
There is a long dust particle or hair inside the screen. Does anybody have that? Will Ibm replace the screen?
The battery often won't charge until I remove it and put it back. When I point at the battery icon in the systray, I can read "battery gauge". Does anyone else have this problem? Whet maybe the problem?
I would appreciate your input and advice.
thank you!

Thank you for your input. No matter what the percentage says, the battery often won't charge. The only way to make it charge again is often removing the battery and installing it again, even though this not always works. Yesterday for example, I removed the battery and installed it again but the battery wouldn't charge anyway (the percentage was 86%). Then I turned off the computer and this morning I turned it on and the battery did indeed charge. The automatic charging threshold is not enabled. Any other ideas?
Also, how could a dust particle get into the screen? Can it be removed? Tomorrow I will go to an IBM service center in San Diego to ask them if they can remove the particle or replace the screen. What is IBM's policy regarding this matter? I know the policy regarding dead pixels but not regarding dust particles. Anyone knows?
Thank you.
Regards,
Jordi

I have also experienced the battery refusing to charge. The last time it occured, my battery was at 65%. The laptop recognized that it is on AC power, but the battery status shows as "no activity".
Also, the battery indicator light shows green (instead of the usual orange while the battery is charging). I tried unplugging/plugging back in the AC with no success. (Never tried pulling out the battery).
So far, I have had this happen 2 or 3 times. If I shutdown the laptop, unplug it for atleast 5 seconds, then plug it back in, the battery indicator light turns orange after a short delay and on the next startup it charges normally.
It's a new thinkpad 2373-KXU (about 2 weeks old) with SP2 installed.
Hopefully we can figure out what causes this.
