pulsing LAN connexion

#1 Post by mikek » Tue Aug 08, 2006 3:47 pm

Just bought a couple of small extending LAN cables to carry in my pocket. I want to use them to plug into wall and floor LAN sockets around the office, rather than carrying the bulky normal LAN wire with me.

These little reels (1metre) work fine on my router at home, but in the office, although they appear to work, the connexion keeps being dropped. If I watch the led on the NIC it seems to pulse off and on, a few second on, a few off.

Tried it with both reels, and on many many LAN ports.

Anybody any ideas?
Thanks

I was gifted a couple of those things from hardware vendors, they were actually crap, the two I had had a very flat profile ribbon type cable that was spring loaded, wound up throwing them both away.

Thanks - I think I would agree with your technical assessment
they were actually crap
- they are cheap. But I'd like to understand why they work fine for me at home, but not at work... and what causes the strange symptoms....
