Anyone use a Sierra Aircard ? Please share details...
Can anyone share any experiences with a Sierra Aircard (such as the Aircard 860) through Cingular? Does it work well or at all with the T4x series? Access Connections? Any comments or info greatly appreciated.
I have a Sony-Ericsson Air Card that I use with my T41. It works fine. I tried to use it with an early version of Access Connections and it screwed up Access Connections pretty badly. It now is supposed to be supported, but I use the card separately. When I need it, I pop it in and use it. When I am done, I disable it (eject it) and remove it. ... JD Hurst

I'm using a Sierra Aircard 580 with the Telstra EV-DO service here in Australia. It works very well with T41 and T43 ThinkPads, but it is not recognised by Access Connections.t41user wrote:Can anyone share any experiences with a Sierra Aircard

I am currently using the AirCard 860 with Cingular. Previously with Cingular I used the Sony Ericsson GC83 card. I have only had the AirCard 860 about 3 weeks and so far I really haven't been able to use the 3G service (I did manage a 3G connection for a short time, but I had a very low signal and could not maintain the connection. This was because I was not really in the coverage area.). Both the AirCard 860 and the GC83 perform similarly with EDGE. I use the Sierra Wireless AirCard 860 Watcher program with the AirCard. I used Sony Ericsson's Wireless Manager with the GC83. I avoid Cingular's Connection Manager software.
I was able to use either card with ThinkVantage Access Connections 4.12, using the above mentioned software. Access Connections launches the appropriate software when you choose the Wireless WAN profile that you create. Access Connections will not operate either card by itself. In this regard, it is limited.
The Sierra Wireless Watcher program has the important feature to allow you to lock in to either the 3G or EDGE network (where available). Cingular Connection Manager does not have this. It was primarily for this feature that I chose the AirCard over the Option GT Max card. I tried Verizon Wireless's Kyocera KPC650 3G card for a short time, and the service kept switching back and forth between 2G and 3G where I was located. Every time it switched, I lost the connection and would have to reload the web page I was trying to view. Because of this, I dropped Verizon while I was still in the trial period and went back with Cingular.
EDIT: BTW, I am using the AirCard 860 with my T42.
