will I ever be able to buy my thinkpad?

Here I go again. Well after deciding that Toshiba is not an option and the R is my price range I get direct to IBM's education page for my college. Offered there is a 23729FU for $1639. Is it a dream come true? 60gig 7200 rpms, 512mbram, bluetooth, a/b/g, and 3 year warranty? This is not only a better config then what originally wanted it is a whole lot less than any thing on the site. (Probably becaue i is a T41). That price is $200 less than what I had been configuring before. Problem is willl I be able to make enough money before I go to school. I am so close and if i don'tg et a job the first week of school who knows how long I will have to wait. I would like to belive the model will be there for awhile but it is the out of 4 T series it is the only T41 ther rest are T42s $1775- $2600. Because it is a T41 I am thinking it won't be offered come december early january or even november when i MUST buy. (father takes desktop back second semester). Ah well wish me luck. All i probably need is 20 hours at minimum wage for a week or two and i will have money to buy computer and money to live for the semester. (books and food)

The T41's are being phased out. The 9FU is a very a good model but has been replaced by the 9XU and the 9ZU which have the faster 1.8ghz Pentium M 745 Dothan CPU, a DirectX9-compatible 64mb Radeon 9600, and the option for a DVD Multi-Burner (9ZU). The question is if these upgrades are worth an extra $500. I think most people here would say no. Also, the 9FU has the faster 60gb 7200rpm drive. If you can come up with the money, $1639 is a very rare deal. It probably won't be available for much longer.

Yes I am thinking the same thing. You don't evne understand how great this is. My I moved my budget down to something less than $1700 so i was in the R series range. Then this comes along. It is great
I am thinking don't new deal or sales level off in september or october. probably by that time it will be gone. I am going to work hard and try my best to get a temporary job at school for two weeks then I will be set.

I've been in the same shoes several times during my college years. If you want to get a job on campus, get there a week before the semester starts, and you will get one easily. That price is unbeatable. Don’t hesitate.

Good luck, and keep us posted on how it goes!

I called the special number that leads me to the sales representative for my school and asked him how long he thinks that T41 would be offered. He confidently said probably six months (at least). I was pretty happy to hear that. He said the T41 is not that different from the T42 so there is no need for them to pull it from the educational site. Since I must buy before february (second semester) i am not even going to think about six months.
Ah well now there is no immediate rush. i can breathe easy. Life is good right now Three months of THOROUGH research is done now just the wait till i can get the money and make my purchase.
