T42p: Bluetooth mouse?

#1 Post by MrBeta » Mon Aug 16, 2004 1:04 am

I'm not big on trackpoints or UltraNav, and as such I've always used small, made-for-laptops USB mice. Currently I'm using a nice small optical mouse with scroll-wheel and retractable USB cord, which weighs just barely 1.5oz

Now that I ordered a new T42p today, which comes with Bluetooth, I came to the conclusion that perhaps a wireless mouse would be even better. :-) That, and the USB ports on the T42p are on the left hand side, and most mice made for laptops come with very short cords that work best when the USB port is in the back or right-hand side of the laptop...

Does anyone have any recommendations for a GOOD quality, yet small in size, Bluetooth mouse? Ideally something complimentary to Thinkpad's awesome black case. 8) Price is not as important as ergonomics and size/weight. Small is good, but small with bad ergonomics is bad. It should also have an "off" switch for when it's in the bag so it's not draining a set of batteries every day.

Anyone?

Bump...

Noone here uses mice with their laptops??

I did a search on this topic and the only thing I came up with is some people using the full size desktop Bluetooth mouse from Microsoft - way too big for traveling with.

Any other suggestions? I'd rather eliminate the cord to drive the mouse altogether, since the T42p has Bluetooth built in already...

I use the MSFT mouse as I find all the others too small.

There are a couple smaller bluetooth mice out there but I foget the name. Check the Apple support forums for the 15" PB. There are a bunch of guys over there looking for the perfect bluetooth mouse (which Apple's would be if it would just have a second button)

I am currently using a Belkin USB wireless. Has worked flawlessly since I purchased it in early Feb. with my T41p and now using on my T42p. Love the small size.I have a Bluetooth Pocket Mouse ordered and should be here this afternoon. I'll give you my impressions once I have it running.

OK, got the new Bluetooth mouse. Setup was a nobrainer. Took all of 30 seconds to setup. It is about between a full size and the USB Belkin. Feels very good ( comfortable ) and solid built. Wish it had been the physical size of the Belkin, but it's nice not having the USB anntena sticking out the side. All in all pretty pleased sofar. :D

I bought a Bluetake BT-500 to go with my 2373-KXU. I think it looks cheaper than it feels and acts. It is really small, but didn't take long to get used to. The wheel works great, and when I first got it the button click seemed kinda loud, i don't know if it got quieter or i just got used to it.

It works flawlessly with windows xp, I didn't even have to install bluetake's drivers. And I was kinda amazed at the range (being bluetooth). I've used it across a fairly large room. Also, there is no noticeable lag.

The wheel lights up blue during bluetooth pairing, and flashes blue when the batteries are low.

It also has an on/off switch, and a pairing button on the bottom.

It would be awesome if they offered it in black.

Yes, I looked at their web site and that's the only thing that I'd like - a nice matte black finish to go with the Thinkpad look.

I'll keep looking, but other than this and another one suggested here, there don't appear to be too many choices in Bluetooth notebook mice. Seems incredibly odd - you'd think that would be the PRIME market for mice manufacturers to excell........

Logitech Mx900

#10 Post by pramit » Tue Aug 17, 2004 3:03 am

I have the Logitech Mx900 and I love it. I didn't even have to hook up the base station via USB. Just turned BT on my computer, then paired it with the mouse, and voila. It worked. Only thing that doesn't work is the 'application switcher' button on the mouse, but I don't care enough for it to install the Logitech software/ drivers. I've got scrolling, back/ forward, and precision control- all via BT.

Highly recommended.

On the Kensington mouse I noticed that it shuts off automatically and you need to click the wheel to reactivate it. This is not documented, but is actually a nice idea. Really is a comfortable mouse to use and freeing up a USB port is a plus.

How hard is it to hold a such small mouse, i.e the Bluetake one. On my desktop, I usually "grab" the mouse, how is it like to hold it with only your fingertips? Another thing, anyone here uses a mobile mouse as their primary mouse?

Does the belkin come with a "Back" button? whichever mouse i choose must have at least the back button. so far it seems like only the logitech and microsoft have it....
