I was about to purchase a used DVD-RW drive for my T42 when I searched the part # on the web and it seems to only come up as a part for the T43. Is there some reason it wouldn't work on a T42?
It's part #39T2507.
I thought they were pretty much the same??
Thanks for your help!
DVD-RW drive compatibility with T42? Says T43 ok.

Welcome to the Thinkpad Forums
It should work;just about all Ultrabay Slim devices from IBM/Lenovo that work in one T4X Thinkpad will work in another T4{0,1,2,3} Thinkpad.
There is probably a way to design an Ultrabay Slim device such that it won't, but I am pretty sure that the DVD Multiburner should work on that T42.
As an example, you can even use the T60's Multiburner though it has a different bezel (square-ish, not rounded like the bezel faceplates on the T4X Series Thinkpad Ultrabay Slim devices).

Make sure you get the correct drivers for it (I would let the Software Installer query the system and handle the updates) and a program that is capable of burning DVDs. The default comes preloaded as IBM/Sonic RecordNow! and is pretty good; you can try Nero if you want as well. Windows does not natively support burning DVD/RWs/-Rs/+Rs as it does with CDRW/Rs.PaulQ wrote:Thanks! I'll go ahead and complete the order. If it ends up not working, I'll post here so others know there's a catch.
