how's kingmax ram?

#1 Post by hapzunglam » Mon Aug 16, 2004 10:13 pm

Anybody have experience with Kingmax SO-DIMMs? I'm looking to add a 1gb stick to my T42 and they are by far the cheapest. Wondering if there's a reason why they are so cheap....

I haven't had any experience with that particular brand of RAM, however, you don't want to go wrong with that particular part of your computer.

I always recomend crucial - I have had great support and customer reps from them. Also, I find their prices cheaper than anywhere else.

Check out the prices today:

RAM prices fluctuate - So check before you buy - I'd wouldn't go with the cheapest - Look at it the same way as your laptop: you pay a premium for the quality and the support...

No, I am not affiliated with crucial - I'm just a very satisfied customer...

It really depends on who makes the modules on the PCB rather than who has assembled the PCB itself.

I just got a pair of 512M that I were branded as Kingmax. (PC3200, FWIW.) The chips on them are KTI, which I know to be a good brand as I had purchased some KTI stuff in the past in a BGA form-factor, long before BGA ram became the rage. They sold it in BGA because it was supposedly better for overclocking, and it was PC133 stuff that actually held up to the name (unlike a lot of the re-marked PC100 floating around at the time). I haven't yet tested this RAM in a thinkpad (I don't have my T42p yet!) but I have no doubts that it will run just fine.

I purchased the stuff at newegg, part number 20-155-119.

Have had great luck with Coast to Coast Memory (lifetime guarantee)
http://www.18004memory.com/index_memory ... ore=memory
Also, www.kahlon.com (have used them on occassion also with good results)

Don't see T42 on Kahlon right now but Coast to Coast has the 1Gig for the T42 for $319. Free shipping for standard mail...and on up from there for faster shipping.

ya, it's like 200bux vs. 400 from crucial.... 200 for 1gig just seems too good to be true. little worried but at that price....

I bought a 1GB Kingmax PC2700 SODIMM from newegg, and it has been working with no problems in my T42p for the last few weeks. Of course, YMMV.
