Best 40Gig hard drive replacement?

#1 Post by RaysMD » Mon Aug 16, 2004 10:23 pm

I'm looking to get a good inexpensive hard drive for an open bay T42 that I just ordered. Any ideas? The 60Gig Hitachi 7200RPM drive is close to $200.

Hitachi E7K60 $135.50 from www.zipzoomfly.com with free second day air. 40 gb, 8 meg of cache, 7200 RPM. Installed one in my R40 and it's working great - significantly faster than the stock 4200 RPM model the machine came with.

The Hitachi 60Gb 7200-rpm is *worth* the money. If cheap is the order of the day, stay with what you have. ... JDHurst

My E7K60 comes with annoyed noise such as "Ka-La, Ka-La".
Is that normal or not?
Thank you.

Both www.zipzoomfly.com and www.newegg.com have a wide selection of notebook harddrives for well below $200.

You all should know that the E prefix on Hitachi drives means that they are designed for blade servers (ie. powered on 24/7) and not for notebook usage. You should be getting the non-E version (ie. plain 7k60).
