NHC settings /t40p config

#1 Post by caffemusse » Thu Aug 17, 2006 2:58 pm

Ciao, 8)

Not sure if this is the right place to post, but here goes:

In the veryforseeable future I will mostly be using my t40p for office stuf, so long bat and silent smooth running is very wanted....

Maybe I'm the dumb kid on the block, but for some reason I still can't get NHC (latest version) to take ACPI control, nor toggle my GPU settings. Are these settings reserved for the people that buy the pro version?

Whoz got experience in setting up a t40p ...custom wise/read editing the multiplier settings? I would love to hear about your settings and undervoltages!!

Furthermore, I cannot get my Cpu to run under 600mhz...is this a minimum for these Banias 1.6mhz cpus? I could swear that I have seen the Thinkpad power manager clock it down to bout' 221 mhz? Any other witnesses?

Hope there are clever underclockers out there that are willing to help.

thx

Well, I am not sure the T40p's GPU supports PowerPlay-like features, which is essentially what NHC has for that. Hence, you can't really underclock/overclock the card. Also, NHC doesn't have ACPI control support for Thinkpads yet; this goes for the latest version as well.

There also is a lower bound to how low you can clock the chipset. The T40, T41, and T42, if I recally correctly, can go as low as 600MHz whilst the T43 can go as low as 800Mhz. There are also some differences when it comes to undervolting as well. I have never seen such T4X Thinkpads go lower than 600Mhz, with or without crashing. Use something like CPU-Z next time to check the real clock speed of the CPU as the one in Windows can have problems and there are some threads that have gone off of mistaken information (i.e. "CPU @ 319MHz," etc). The lowest clock setting and the lowest voltage setting are a function of the chipset and you can't really, with undervolting being an exception, get them lower than what is actually supported by the hardware. You can go pretty low for the voltages, although this can lead to severe system instability the higher clock rate you undervolt at.

HTH :)

I was looking to add Thinkpad support to NHC, but so far it doesn't seem possible. It doesn't look like controlling the fan is accessible via ACPI (at least from what I can see). The fan control utility seems to just mess with the ECC... rather than go through ACPI.

And I was willing to code that up and everything ;).

#4 Post by caffemusse » Thu Aug 31, 2006 10:07 am

So thanks for the tips so far...

but I still have no clue as how to configure NHC to enable the ACPI control system... ?
Help needed pls ;)
(by the way my t40p has got powerplay working with lenovo/ati drivers)
