How to monitor CPU / GPU Temps??

#1 Post by agarza » Fri Aug 18, 2006 6:21 pm

I'd like to troubleshoot my T42p because is freezing when I start playing a graphic intensive game (like NFS Most Wanted)

Apparently my machine has the Short fan which do not cool down the GPU.

Could somebody help me out to find if the temperatures of the GPU rise too high?

One man's method: I place an external digital temperature sensor into the output fan vent, idle cpu output fan air temp is 98F, heavy cpu processing output temp is around 125F, probably very accurate for my IBM T41P with 2GB memory.

MobileMeter is good, but only gives CPU and HD temps, cant do GPU temps..

your gpu must support temperature monitoring.

Is there a way to know the GPU temperature then??

I'm troubleshotting my system, and want to know the temp the GPU get after starting a 3D game.
Also, considering to apply AS in the new heatsink after it's placed to reduce some degrees down

you really need the long fan. you should not run the short fan, it will fry the gpu if you do.

You mean absolutely fry it (to become unusable) or that will cause the freeze.
I'm tempted to open my machine to see if I've the short fan, but since there's only 2 days ahead for the fan replacement under Warranty, should I do it??

My GPU temp before changing the short fan for the long fan:

I noticed that GPU temp jumps to 88C at least when I play NFS Most Wanted for 25sec, then switch back to the T43 Fan Control and it shows 88C in the GPU.
Surely I need to change the fan, because Im unable to play any game.

Admin edit: please, links to images only, thanks :)
