Cheapest way to copy data from T41 HDD to new HDD?

#1 Post by jch » Tue Aug 22, 2006 4:37 pm

Considering upgrading my T41p's 60GB/7200 to a 100GB/7200 (Hitachi 7K100?).

What's the easiest/cheapest way to transfer the contents of my old drive to the new drive? (I have PartitionMagic DriveCopy already).

In particular, what *hardware* is required? Do they make cheap ($10) USB harnesses for these drives like they do for desktop drives?

Or is there a better way to connect the new drive to the T41p while doing the imaging?

Appreciate any help.

Thanks!

Newegg.com has a bunch of them for under $10 + $5 shipping:

You didn't say where you are. If you are near Santa Clara, CA. Surplus Computers have some for $9.99 as well; saves you the shipping.

7k100 discontinued??

#5 Post by jch » Wed Sep 13, 2006 2:39 pm

Well, I've got the Ultrabay HDD adapter on its way from IBM/Lenovo...

But this morning I found out that the place I'd ordered the 7K100/ATA/100GB from (NCIX.com) says that they've been told that the 7K100 has been discontinued !?!

This can't be so... Does anyone know whether it is still available (preferably in Canada)?

Anyone?

Thanks!

I just ordered the exact model you want from pcalchemy.com on Sunday and it shipped on Monday. I doubt Hitachi is discontinuing them as they haven't announced a replacement for it AFAIK.

I only see the Serial-ATA versions on that site. My T41p uses EIDE I believe.

Which version did you receive??

I got the SATA version. I didn't realize that you needed IDE, sorry.

No worries.

Today, the IDE version arrived on my doorstep

So now I just have to wait for the UltraBay adapter to arrive from Lenovo on Monday :D

I'll let you folks know how it goes -- thanks for all your help!
