Does the Hitachi 7k100 1gig work in my T42 model 2374?

#1 Post by geluidsgolf » Tue Aug 22, 2006 6:09 pm

Hello people,

I have got a Thinkpad T42 from the year 2004. The model is 2374...

Now I have called with the support desk from IBM here in Holland and asked them what kind of upgrade is possible if I want a faster HD.
They told me I can't get a HD bigger the 80gb... And advised me to get the Hitachi 7k60 if I want 7200rpm

My current HD is an Hitachi DK23EB-40 with ATA-5 (Enhanced IDE) Interface...

Since the Hitachi 7k100 has some new kind of ATA connection (Parallel & Serial ATA 1.5Gb/s) im not sure if this will fit on my Thinkpad..

Is there anyone who can assure me that this 7k100 will work? Any people already have it on the older T42??

Thank you very much!

Regards,

Eelke

Yes, the PATA (Parallel ATA) Hitachi 7K100 will work ferfectly in the T42. The exact model number is HTS721010G9AT00 (0A25015).

Eelke,

Welcome to the Forum.

Yes, an Hitachi 7K100 PATA HD will work just fine in your T42.

I've got one in each of my T41Ps, my wife and daughter each have one in their respective T42 and my son-in-law has one in his T42P.

You can cancel the order just call the seller. At least you must try that. :)

Nope, that only happens on systems with a SATA-PATA bridge and a non-IBM firmwared HDD which will then make the BIOS throw the 2010 error, This is only encountered on the T43/p, R52, and X41. :)

I'm not an apologist for IBM, but in their defense they probably said that the 60GB HD is the largest they support on the T42.

Of course this is nonsense at any level as the 7K100, while it may not be specifically listed, is only an upgrade of the supported HDs IBM lists for the T4X/P systems here.
