t42 resolution issue?
Hello all.
Got a new t42 here, running the ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 (1024x768) max resolution.
Maybe i'm just insane, but for some reason the resolution seems to be wrong, it's set to 1024x768 but it looks like 800x600 normally does, and my 800x600 resolution looks like 640x480 resolution normally does.
Not only that, when i check the card properties, its reporting that i have multiple monitors. And in the hardware configuration, it lists 3 monitors.
I've disabled the 2 extras, and left the "thinkpad lcd" one, but i still cant get this resolution to look right, i've checked and playe dwith all the video settings in the bios. No dice.
I've also updated every driver possible including the bios via thinkvantage.
Has anyone run into this odd resolution issue?
Thinkpad t42
2374-DY3
Windows XP SP2
Any help would be appreciated.

Might be an SXGA+ LCD in there
Or
It could be your imagination.
Or
It just could be a really bad LCD panel

Wallpaper stretch is purely an image adjustment, it wouldn't effect the icons, spacing, and window size of the o/sbfgun wrote:what about going to wallpaper websites?
some sites have default wallpaper sizes at 800x600 and 1024x768.
disabling the wallpaper stretch will show if it's the right resolution. if not, then it's def gotta be software.
Not sure what software could cause this, but i suppose i can format and give it another shot.

Ture, open a 1024*768 wallpaper in internet explorer and make sure extend it to full size, see if it actually fit your screenbfgun wrote:right, what i'm suggestiong is use an actual 800x600 wallpaper. if it's too small, then you'll see a frame on the outside of the image itself. (windows color frame) The magnify feature is disabled, right?
can you post pictures of the screen?

I found a quickly way to determine your resoulation, just need to answer a question:
how many icons are on your desktop vertically(single column)?
1.) for 800x600, you will have 7
2.) for 1024x768, you will have 9
3.) for 1600x1200 like mine, you will have 15, LOL!!!
god......i am genius................(*sign........just joking)

Try changing the LCD driver to the new high resolution (1280x1024) and see if that size fits the screen well.
To upgrade it, go to Device Manager, right click LCD thinkpad, upgrade driver, "no, i'll search the driver", point the location of the lcd driver, and select 1280x1024 thinkpad lcd panel and then change the resolution.

i mean use default windows setting.Uncletoad wrote:That doesn't work. You can change the size of the icons. I have 12 icons on a 1024x768 screen.
why don't you just say he could be using Linux? or he could be blind so that he can't count the icons?
