#1 Post by gunston » Thu Aug 24, 2006 5:36 pm

hi,
anyone who is using SXGA+ LCD screen, please share your view here.
Does it has high frequency of getting Dead Pixels after a long use compare to common XGA LCD screen?

I believe most "dead" pixels are there since day one, and don't usually pop up after using the machine for some time.

However, dead pixels and stuck pixels are two different things. Dead being pixels that are completely unlit (black), stuck being ones that get stuck green, blue, or red.

"Stuck" pixels can be there from day one, or appear later on. However, they can also go away, sometimes on their own, or if you run a video loop over them to "unstick" them. Some people also claim that rubbing the pixel can revive it.

I have had great experiences with the LCD screens on all of my ThinkPads (An SXGA 770z, an XGA T22, XGA T23, XGA T42, and my current SXGA+ T42) and none of them have ever had a single dead or stuck pixel. SXGA+ displays have more pixels than XGA screens. So in terms of quantity, yes there's a better chance an SXGA+ panel will have a dead/stuck pixel than an XGA panel. But the chance of the pixels being bad/getting stuck individually is identical.

All LCD panels have a chance of dead/stuck pixels. Though ThinkPads are generally pixel-perfect, there's never a guarantee.

Without quesiton you can develop dead pixels. The most common cause is preasure on the display (or touching it)... which is why you should be hands off. It's delicate. Same with stuck pixels.

SXGA+ is more likely to have them, just because there are more pixels.

Stuck or dead?

If they are stuck, you could run an "un-stick" loop over them and see if that does it. :)

Although I haven't done that for a full horizontal row of stuck pixels.

Yep, your thinkpad probably has pc doctor, just run the video card diagnostic, it won't find any problems but the testing process will unstick those pixels, even if you abort the test after a few seconds.

Try out the utilities that ppl have pointed out, have a small list here: Complete row of dead/stuck pixels & IBM Service Horror
If that doesn't help, warranty is your only hope.
