With Compact Flash do you get Error -- Disk EventID: 11??

#1 Post by andyk » Tue Aug 17, 2004 7:25 pm

My 2-week old T42 shutdown on its own three times today. Spybot, Ad-aware, and Symantec Virus Detection all turned up clean.

I looked into the XP Event Log and couldn't find anything at the time of shutdown's. But I did notice errors that have been happening as far back as the beginning of log -- Source: Disk, EventID: 11.

Microsoft suggests "This problem is typically caused by a failing cable that connects the drive to the computer."

I reseated the hard drive and am still getting these errors at random. Do you see any of these errors in your Event Log? To view your log, open Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer, these are under System.

Thanks!

I assume folks here have clean System Event log? That this is abnormal that probably the motherboard needs to be replaced?

Thanks again.

No similar events in my log. Something in your PC is probably defective.

Thanks Rick!

I doubled checked the stated device: "The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk1\D". I now think "Harddisk1" is actually referring to my cheap Compact Flash/Flash Adapter that I leave in the card slot all the time.

Anyone using the same scheme for backups and having the same errors?

Strangely, I have not seen any random shutdown after posting this topic. Maybe somebody up there was punishing me for leaving my brethren -- this is the week before schools starts and I haven't had the time to check in with folks here!
