replacing the hd of a t43 2668-74u

#1 Post by eigh » Thu Aug 24, 2006 11:49 pm

im thinking of buying a 60gb seagate drive and replacing the 80gb drive. yes im downgrading, i dont really care, what i want to know is can i? will it be compatable with the software ibm wants to download for it (hard disk drivers and such)? what interface to the motherboard does the hard drive take?

ok so as best my memory servs (and according to the tabook as of july '06) a t43 2668-74u has an 80HS GB drive. on ibm's site for replacement parts a replacement hard drive's interface as ata/atapi-5. a search on newegg for 2.5" seagate drives only lists ata-6 drives. does this look like the seagate drive I am eyeing will be incompatable?

I tried putting a Seagate Momentus 160GB Hard Drive in my T43 and it said no. It worked, but every time I booted, there was some BIOS thing that beeped the speaker like 3 or 4 times and it made me go through some "This hard drive is not compadible" message. When I talked to the rep, he said theres a hard drive whitelist, and you have to use Travelstar (Hitachi & IBM Branded) Hard Drives only. Theres a chance that your seagate will work, but to be safe, Id go for a Travelstar
X60s 1704-69U (Core Duo 1.66LV, 1.5GB, 100GB 5400, 12.1" XGA, WWAN, 8 Cell, DVDRW in X6)
External Storage: 250GB + 500GB Porshce

T40 Project: (Planned) P-M 2GHz, 2GB, 100GB, DVDRW
