Adding Bluetooth in a T42P?

#1 Post by agarza » Sun Aug 27, 2006 10:07 pm

Hi.
I got a T42p without bluetooth. I'd like to get the integrated card to be able to connect with my W810i.

The model is: 2373GEG

The laptop LEDS below the LCD lack the Bluetooth LED, it only has the Wireless LED. In the lid (when the laptop is closed) there's the Bluetooth LED along with the Battery and Sleep LEDS, however the outside 3 LEDS has never been lit up, that is, they're with no luminiscence, I guess a cable should not be making contact with the motherboard.

So, can I just replace the modem card and plug the Bluetooth one??

Also, if you install a bluetooth card there's supposed to be, under Device Manager in Windows XP the device listed so that you could install the driver, or it's invisible until you start the setup installer?

I've suspected that my laptop is T41p because of the model number, however, on the outside, there is the brand T42p on the right side below the LCD.

This laptop was sold by IBM to its employees, so I got it from one of them at a ridiculously low price (780USD), BRAND NEW with the original preinstalled software in Spanish language (Because the IBM factory is in Guadalajara, MEXICO)

Where could I get the Bluetooth card?
Does it matter or not if the laptop lacks the Bluetooth LED??

Why the outside LEDS of the cover doesn't lit up?

EDIT: and it has 1024MB or RAM, not 512MB, and the CDRW writes @24x

IBM Bluetooth Modem cards on eBay

You'll also need an internal antenna

You do not need the Bluetooth LED
