Was it a good deal?

#1 Post by israel » Tue Aug 29, 2006 5:16 am

Hi,
I've bought a T40p few days ago (I'm still waiting for it).
I would like to ask is it was i good deal?
My thinkpad:
1,6 GHz
1GB RAM
HDD 80 GB
Wireless 802.11a,b
bluetooth
Combo Drive
screen: 14,1"
I gave about $720

What do you think about it?
Is it a good choice for a student?

Thanks a lot

Unless you don't actually receive it (which I'm sure nobody here would wish upon you 8) )...I'd say you chose wisely :)

I don't know about European prices, but I would say that the price is a bit high if you were in the USA

I know prices in USA only from eBay and in my opinion it's not easy to find cheaper. Also ship cost are rather high.
Here in Central Europe the second hand laptops market isn't as big as in West Europe or in USA so prices are rather high. For example:
T30
1,8GHz
256 MB RAM
HDD 20 GB
DVD-ROM
14,1"
about $550
the same with 512 MB RAM and HDD 40 GB about $610

T40
1,4GHz
256 MB RAM
HDD 40 GB
DVD-ROM
Radeon 7500
14,1"
about $715

simmilar T40 with 1,5GHz and 3 month warranty (seller warranty - no IBM warranty) about $860!
(prices from local equivalent to eBay)

Sometimes there are some cheaper models but always something is broke or missing.
So here price isn't high - I think.
Thanks for all answears

I'd say it's a fair (but not better than fair) price in Europe for a used T40p out of warranty.

I wouldnt say you got a bad deal, and if those are prices in EUR than I would make all kinds of money on the T30 Im trying to sell. You say one with 40gb, and 512 goes for 600 dollars? Yikes I cant get 400 shipped out of mine with a 108g card in it!!!!!!!!!

In the car business, they say a deal is a state of mind.

Some people that purchase cars at excellent prices feel they didn't get a good deal.

Some who purchase at high prices feel they did get a good deal.

With laptops, a good "price" today, is often not very good in a matter of months.

It really is a state of mind.

Regarding the T40p purchase, if you receive what you thought you bought, the pricing seems fair.

Overpaid ? Here in germany you just can't find a T40p under let's say 800 EUR, impossible. Regarding prices here in germany I would say it definitively was a great deal. Heard though that US Prices are somewhat lower...
