T42 and Lenovo L201p, Quality problem

#1 Post by DJHingapus » Tue Aug 29, 2006 5:14 pm

Hey i have recently bought a LCD LENOVO L201P UXGA 20" with native res 1600*1200, but im not satisfied with the quality of the screen... Its mostly the text it looks a bit blurry, and example is the marker in OFFICE WORD.. on my laptop it blinks nicely black and not blutty but on my lcd its like its 2 pixel wide instead of one? first line of pixels is black other grey / brown.. I have to say i use VGA connection is this what the blurring is about??? I am sure i run the native resolution no doubt about that.. Could i help my problems if i buy a mini dock for the T42 and use the DVI??

I really hope you will help me?

Best Regards

You know, I can't comment on your problem directly, but as to the quality of TFT screens generally I have been using a 2002 Dell C810 with an IBM manufactured UXGA screen for almost three years on and off, the screen is IBM for sure as I pulled my systems inventory off the Dell website (a very NICE feature they have).

Now, my new T43p UXGA screen is nice, and far better in sunlight, but to be honest the 4 year old IBM UXGA screen seems a lot sharper in moderate to low light, in fact sharp as hell.

Screens really haven't come as far as other components - theres not much you can improve now I guess and its all about compromises.

Sorry about the slightly off track rant...

VGA-Ports on notebooks are known for their poor quality. IBM is no exception. I am sure DVI will increase your displayquality a lot. But you don't need the minidock. The portreplicator will do fine and is a lot cheaper.

Do you have the res set to 1600x1200? If not then you need to.

Is your T42 integrated video or discrete? The discrete models tend to look a lot nicer than the integrated versions in my experience.
