2nd Drive Bay on T43p

#1 Post by edik » Tue Aug 29, 2006 6:56 pm

Thinking of buying a 2nd Drive Bay ($50 in the UK) replacing the DVD-RAM with a new Samsung 40GB/5400RPM drive (I have one without a home).

So, primary will be 60/7200 and secondary 40/5400.

If I stick the paging file (Windows has allocated 2-4GB) on the secondary device will I get any more performance?

Thanks

No; nothing measurable -- especially if you move the swap file to a slower drive.
The answer would still be "no" even if the second drive were another 7200RPM device.

you could split the pagingfile for better performance, but still not recomended because you could never use your cd-drive without reconfiguring your pagingfile again.

You won't notice any increase in performance; certainly not on the order of placing the pagefile on a seperate and quickly accessed partition as even that doesn't give the performance gain you are probably seeking. I use my 2nd HDD Adapter for dual-booting OSes and as temporary storage.

The best thing would be to max out the memory to 2GB and then either tweak, or get rid of completely depending on what you are doing, the pagefile. :)
