Would bluetooth work w/o antenna?

#1 Post by marko » Tue Aug 29, 2006 8:45 pm

Hi, I want to install the BMDC but do not wish to tinker with the lcd and antenna in fear of voiding warranty.

Would bluetooth work without the antenna although with smaller range?

Read somewhere on this forum that it's possible to just leave the antenna on top of the card.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Marko

BT will work without an antenna, but the range is limited to inches.

I added a BT III card with a non-IBM BT antenna. It was only about 4 inches long and I tucked it next to the BT card.

It works well with reasonable range.

I used the exact same antenna model as cmarti, as posted above.

I used the IBM BlueTooth III combo modem adapter in my T40. It is called a BMDC200B, when used with IBM's drivers, it works perfectly.

One or two other prior models also work. I have not heard of the IBM BlueTooth IV model working with a T40.

Here's an eBay link to the exact model

Confusion about type of daughter card for T42

#6 Post by bilalmuddassir » Sun Sep 10, 2006 10:31 am

What is the difference between all these bt cards such as BMDC200 BMDC200b BMDC3 where some are bt 1.1 others bt 1.2 and others still bt 2.0?

How do I know which one or ones work with 2374-K5U i.e. T42 thinkpad?

There is no matrix or clarification of all these models anywhere so please don't mind this bt-101 question.

Any help will be appreciated.

FRU #27R1880 (replaces FRU #91P7319) is the correct one and will work with the T42. FRU #39T0024 and FRU #39T0026 are for T43 and will not work on the T42.
