Gap between bezel & LCD after replacement
After LCD IBM Service Horror...
After pulling some strings, i.e. sending LOTs of emails, I struck the right
cord! The technician at service center told that he will replace the LCD
in 2-3 days. Don't know how he conjured with LCD after claiming they
were out of stock! But after they gave me a good replacement, they did
an unclean job. There's gap between LCD bezel and the LCD. They told me
it's BOUND to be there.
Lot of ppl here have replaced the LCD themeselves, do you guys think it's
acceptable quality of job from authorized IBM serivce center?
My expectation is that they should also glue the LCD like it originally was.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
If I were to quantify it, gap is of the order of 2-3 mm. I have left the system with them for fixing it.

Re: Gap between bezel & LCD after replacement
Even new machines (at least the T4x series) can have gaps. I would say 2 mm is not uncommon. How does this affect the functionality of your computer? Are you getting any uneven lighting because of it?princeatul wrote: There's gap between LCD bezel and the LCD. They told me

If not, I would not worry about it.
Re: Gap between bezel & LCD after replacement
All bezels fit around the LCD panels skin tight -- not even a fraction of a millimeter gap. The bezels have several thin strips of double-sided tape around their inside perimeters. These tape strips complete the "seal" when the bezels are pressed against the LCD panels' metal frames. No gaps. Period.

Re: Gap between bezel & LCD after replacement
Nope, it does not affect the functionality per se. But is it that difficult a job to snugly fit it? If I gave a brand new just 5 month old TP, I would expect something good back. It does look annoying when looked at closely. Potentially it's a good enough chance for dust to go in! And I guess this MIGHT cause problems in long run.Thinkpaddict wrote:How does this affect the functionality of your computer? Are you getting any uneven lighting because of it?

Re: Gap between bezel & LCD after replacement
I see your point, and I agree that having no gap would be preferable. However, I must reiterate that for the last 2 years I got my hands in 3 new Thinkpads, and in 2 of them there was a visible gap. The problem is not that uncommon. But yes, if you think you are entitled to get it fixed, go ahead and complain to have it fixed. Hopefully they won't break something else while fixing that.princeatul wrote: Nope, it does not affect the functionality per se. But is it that difficult a job to snugly fit it? Thanks for pointing that thread, it was interesting/enlightening to read.Thinkpaddict wrote:The problem is not that uncommon.
I get the point. I'll insist it to be fixed, but if they don't budge, as you said, I'll have to live with some imperfectionsThinkpaddict wrote:But yes, if you think you are entitled to get it fixed, go ahead and complain to have it fixed. Hopefully they won't break something else while fixing that.
Oh yes, I pray to GOD that they don't break anything. Not worried about parts, it's still under warranty, but the thought of dealing with service center sends chills through my spine.
How difficult is it to fix it yourself, esp. when you haven't ripped any TP apart?
