S-Video out to play DVD

#1 Post by skitty4gzus » Wed Aug 30, 2006 10:24 pm

yes i searched and it brought 1 sort of helpful tip on this, but still no dvd playing on tv, got plenty of audio though. Im going through the s-video out and i can not get the dvd to play on the tv or the desktop to be sized correctly on the tv. I have tried many things and different settings, but still cant get it. I have a t42p and i tried to attach the monitor 2 and than go into advanced settings and make it overlay in theater mode, but it wont let me. It says I cant get to theater mode while im in exteded desktop mode? Wow what do i need to configure for this to work?

I never set it to monitor 2. First I turned on the TV on the Display tab (TV has to be connected and turned on first), then I set it to Theater Mode in the Overlay tab.

tried the theater settings but it never lets me get to them, they are blocked out. I also couldnt get the desktop to size itself correctly as i only have 2 choices. 1024x768 or 800x600. I dont know I was pretty tired when i was messing with it, I will have to try again later.

TV is on and i hooked in the s-video cable. I have no idea what to do to get dvd on my tv. Wow I had no idea it was this hard to watch a dvd on my television. There has got to be a tutorial on this or something. The lil IBM helper software on the computer was about useless. As i already know how to plug an s-video cable into the side of my computer. Somebody should tell the folks at IBM that there is more to it than just plugging the cable in!

1. Turn laptop on and plug in S-Video cable to ThinkPad.
2. Turn TV on and plug in S-Video cable to TV.
3. Set the TV channel to S-Video input (may be called rear input, front input, or something similar), just like you would do if you were hooking up a VCR or DVD player to the TV with an S-Video cable.
4. Right-click on an open area of the desktop and choose Properties > Settings > Advanced > Displays tab. You should see a red button on the top left of the TV panel in the settings box. Click on the red button, and it should turn green. If you do not see the red button, then the signal is not coming in from the TV via the S-Video cable.
5. When the button is green on the top left of the TV panel, click on the button just to the right of the green button, and adjust the settings if needed.
6. Click on the Overlay tab > Theater mode options.... button > under Overlay Display Mode, click on Theater Mode. If you click Same on all, you should see your video on both the laptop and the TV.

Hope this helps.

It's on the Displays tab. You will see three boxes with an image in each one: Monitor on the left, Panel (LCD) in the middle, and TV on the right. On top of each of the three boxes are two buttons. The button on the left is On/Off. The button on the right opens up additional settings. These buttons will be grayed-out and it will say Not Connected below the image(s), unless the device is connected.
