Happy with new T42DUU

#1 Post by ralfaro » Wed Aug 18, 2004 9:26 pm

I have had my T42DUU for about a week and a half now, and honestly couldn't be happier with my purchase. omeone from IBM must be listening because fortunately, I have not run across any of the problems I have seen reported here. No loose battery, wireless works great as long as you get rid of IBM Access Connections, and keyboard feels solid to me even around the arrow keys. It was a hell of a buy I think for $1660 including an additional 256mb to bring it up to 512mb. The only thing I have left to do now is call IBM and upgrade the waurantee from 1 to 3 years, maybe even on-site if the price is right. Actually, I think I saw a post around here somewhere stating the waurantee upgrades were cheaper on line, so I'll have to check that out.

Anyhow, this forum was an awesome resource. I'm just really glad I got what seems to be a trouble free unit.

just a reminder, I noticed in an earlier post that you were interested in protection insurance.... safeware.com offers coverage at a reasonable price and is a service partner of IBM's.

Thanks, I'll check them out. Have you had any first hand experience with them? If so, how does the level of service compare to IBM's? Although I have seen a few horror stories about IBM service, generally speaking for the most part, most seem to have had a good experience with them.

no firsthand experience, but IMHO, since they are referenced by name directly on the IBM site, they must be pretty stable. You could also leverage IBM if there was ever a problem. In any case, you can't buy Protection Insurance from IBM now, AND Safeware also includes theft insurance in their price.
