Intel PRO/Wireless 2200 and a T42

Will this Mini-PCI wifi card work with my T42 2378EYU. It looks like the same one listed on IBM's web site.

Newegg has it for, what looks like, a decent price.

I'm not understanding all the talk about hacks to get non ibm wifi cards to work in thinkpads.

Thanks,

jake

Generally, a WiFi card not from IBM will not work in current model ThinkPads. The card you linked to at Newegg is physically the same as the one IBM sells.

It is my understanding that most PCI cards have a small Flash ROM that contains some data about the manufacturer of the card - The 2200BG and other WiFi cards from IBM have been specially flashed to reflect that they are IBM approved.

If you attempt to install a non-IBM mPCI card the ThinkPad BIOS will refuse to boot the machine and ask you to remove the "unauthorized" part from the system.
Homebuilt PC: AMD Athlon XP (Barton) @ 1.47 GHz; nForce2 Ultra; 1GB RAM; 80GB HDD @ 7200RPM; ATI Radeon 9600; Integrated everything else!
