Thinkpad Screen Problem after cleaning

#1 Post by ll357355 » Thu Aug 19, 2004 12:07 pm

I just cleaned my screen on my almost new T41 (14.1" SXGA+) with notebook screen cleaner. Now on the bottom of the screen it looks like part of the screen has deformed, almost as if liquid got inside and looks all weird.
Its hard to describe.

Any ideas??

if liquid got inside, that is most definitely a problem.. all you can do is wait and hope it drys..... let this be a lesson to everyone... WHATEVER CLEANER YOU USE, NEVER APPLY IT DIRECTLY TO THE SCREEN...PUT IT >SPARINGLY< ON WHATEVER CLOTH YOU USE, AND THEN WIPE YOUR SCREEN.....

liquid spills are not covered unless you purchased the additional Thinkpad Protection at time of purchase, which I HIGHLY recommend.....

Even with the ThinkPad Protection, you will need to justify the problem as an accident and not an intentional act.

Do not know how the panel is designed in your thinkpad, but if liquid has got in, it should also get out... Maybe a cold drier could help you with the task... However, whatever you do, make sure no electrical component gets wet before you plug the laptop back again!!!!

X220t IPS but but a bit unhappy with it
T60p 2007-93U 1600x1200 IPS (T42p is an overall better machine though. Lack of new IPS Thinkpads keeps me buying these older models!)
T42p 2373-KXU 1600x1200 IPS (The best ever!!)
A20p 2629-6UU 1400x1050 (My first Thinkpad!)

If only people would read the FAQ at http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=1689 where there is an amazing collection of information such as the following...

18) What is the best way to clean my ThinkPad’s LCD? What about the case? Can I just use Windex and a paper towel?

Windex, napkin, and paper towel are big no-no’s. Use a lint-free/micro-fiber cloth and screen cleaning fluid (which is a mix of water and Ethanol). Never spray the cleaner directly onto the screen, always spray it onto the cloth first. You can use the same cleaner for the case, or just a slightly watered cloth. These cleaning supplies are available at Office Depot, Staples and other office/computer supply stores.
