replacing the fan in T43

#1 Post by T43User » Sun Sep 03, 2006 9:41 pm

Hi All,

The fan on my T43 seems to be dead. Too bad, my warranty just expired. I hope this is just fan reaching its life, since the power management setting has been, by mistake, in such that the fan would keep running overnight I'm wondering whether anyone replaced the fan and if so, how it was. Could any body give me part number or / and instruction?

thanks!

Hi.
in case the fan is dead, your Thinkpad shouldn't start but show a "FAN ERROR" message on start-up.
Replacing the fan isn't to difficult, you need to remove the keyboard and the bezel (all screws are marked on the bottom of the TP with symbols). After removal of the screws, you have access to the fan mounting screws and you can replace the fan assembly.
Lots of tips are around to replace the heat conductive paste on the new fan assy by silver artic to get better heat transfer and lower fan revs. and less noise...
For the correct P/N have look at IBM.com (or lenovo.com) and search for the part in the shop with your's machine type-No.

Sincerely, Carlhermann

You can get a copy of your Hardware Maintenance Manual from this list. The part numbers, as well as instructions are available there.
