DVD Media problem in Matshita UJ812 in T42 3VU

#1 Post by aranaxon » Thu Aug 19, 2004 8:58 pm

No problems recognizing and burning CD-rs, but the other day, I got some 4x DVD-R's in the drive to experiment with some DVD authoring.

The drive failed to recognize the media, using Nero as well as Alcohol 120 (with up to date versions)

I know the drive is compatible with my software.

Has anyone got any confirmed reports of ok burning with a specific brand/type of media in the Matshita UJ 812?

don't know... I bought "bad smelling" no-name dvd-r's from my local Microcenter for about .80 each... they worked fine.....

I don't think that drive will burn 4X media- that's why you had the problem with the drive not recognizing it....you should buy 2X media and you should be okay....stay away from the cheap no-name brands.

Leon...my drive is the "11", and not the "12," so it's doubtful it will do any thing yours won't...and of course, it won't do as much.

that's actually true, I had 2x media

does that imply that unlike CD-R's, that media is NOT backwards compatible with DVD-R and that specific media has to be bought for specific speed burners?

I got some Sonic DVD-R 4.7GB 1X-4X from shop4tech.com about a week ago. They work fine even though the burner is only 2X. And the best part is, they're only $29 for a 100 pack, free shipping.

A few seconds of googling scored me coupon code xpbargains10, which gives you an additional 10% off. :D

I'd say make sure you get DVD's that say 2X 1X-2X 1X-4X or 2X-4X instead of just 4X.

I have been burning Imation and Verbatim 4x DVD-R on my burner with 100% success, using Nero. Verbatims are of very high quality, I recommend them.

I'm using Memorex and TDK (preferred) 4X DVD-R, as well as some crappy CompUSA 4X generic DVD-R discs and with the exception of some physical flaws on a couple of the CompUSA discs, they have all worked well with my drive... UJ-812B Panasonic FRU#92P6110...
