Frustrated and insisting.

#1 Post by marcos » Wed Sep 06, 2006 7:57 pm

Someone else would have given up with Thinkpads but I like them too much and keep instisting, may be too much ...

My eight-month old T42 HDs is to be replaced and the system itself does not start at times. IBM support did not made a fuss thanks god the three year warranty will cover my [censored].

This is so bad luck, after the T30 suffering the dead memory slot before dying and then the T40 having his share of trouble. Perhaps the tougher was the 600 but it is gone as well.

I had other laptopts before Thinkpad, but I can't even remember the brand. I pretty much remember all the twists with the TPs, why is that ?

But I cannot think of buying anything else so I'm getting an used T43 as backup before going dual-core (not enough money now).

Now if they just could get a brighter display like all the other decent laptops of this world.

I needed to vent this out. I'm sure you will understand. Thanks for listening.
T440s OK so far.
T420s NVIDIA graphics. Nice, then MB failure.
T400s Workhorse. two of'em, both faulty display with vertical stripes.
T43 °very nice° - MB reflown and dead, two of'em.
T42 15°, dead onboard wireless.
T40, dead memory slot, stolen from me
T30, stolen from me
TP600 dead

Marcos, a question about your signature. Were your T30 and T40 stolen after they died? Or did you steal them?

Hehe, would not be very wise to carry stolen stuff and boasting that in a signature!
No, both the T30 and T40 were snapped by a con artist that robbed my apartment. He asked for a ransom but I was travelling and ultimately did not had to suffer that humilation too.

Cherry on the pie is that I had just replaced some $300 system board on the T40. Not happy with that, the T40 responded by misteriously failing the keyboard and I was in the process of getting another one.

Previously, I had an macbook or whatever was called stolen at the corporate campus. Time later, a cop emails me that they have found it, as a student was trying to sell it suspiciosly, it has been seized and my email was still in there. I understand the guy was prosecuted for that but I did not go to court, it was in some remote place and not a fun thing after all.

I change the signature to show I'm a victim and not a thief!

My story

#4 Post by crazyfrog » Sun Sep 10, 2006 1:23 pm

Good story.

I am using my second TP. One is R40 and the other is a recent T43.

I have used my R40 for nearly 3 years without any problems untill early this year. After a short trip, my R40 could not display properly. I believe the problem dues to the graphic chip which got loosed contact with the motherboard.

So I decided to go for another TP. After a short period of hunting on ebay, I got my brand new T43. It's been working fluently for a couple of months, except the fan noise, which i have never experienced with my old R40. I know there is a fan control program, but I prefer not to risk my expensive T43 when it is still new.
