T43 bluetooth antenna questions

#1 Post by alfio » Thu Sep 07, 2006 6:22 pm

i'm trying to upgrade my T43 and add bluetooth and i'm a little lost...

i added the bluetooth card and i was expecting bluetooth to fire right up but it seems like my thinkpad doesn't have the antenna (even though the tabook.pdf file says i have it and i can see the cable coming up the left hinge).

any ideas? thanks

a

If you installed the card correctly, Windows should detect that there is new hardware and try and install drivers for it, irrespective of whether the anatenna is connected or not.

You do need to have an antenna connected to get Bluetooth communicatiuon going, but not to get the card "visible" to your ThinkPad.

If you don't have drivers installed for the card then nothing will happen on the Bluetooth front!

Cheers,

Bill

sorry, i didn't explain myself very well. the card is recognized and i can turn it on and off but it gets no reception because, apparently, there is no antenna. now, of course, that is exactly what is weird about it because i can see the cable and it should be going to the antenna (right?)

thanks bill.

If that is the case the easiest way to install the antenna is buying this one.
X32/2.0GHZ/2GB/ENGENIUS EMP-8602+S 600mw mini pci/WD 250GB
X60/1.83GHZ/2GB/Atheros/7K100

k, solved it. i updated BIOS and Embedded Controller and it powered up just fine. i guess that solves the mystery, white cable is the Bluetooth antenna even if IBM reps tell you otherwise
