Rapid Restore Ultra 4.0 br_funcs.exe

#1 Post by imref » Thu Sep 07, 2006 9:17 pm

Whenever I kick off a backup using RRU 4.0, br_funcs.exe goes to 99% CPU utilization and basically freezes my machine. I've left it for hours now, the backup never progresses past 0% complete, and the only way out is to kill the proccess.

Has anyone else seen this, is there a fix?

thanks!

Yesterday I didn't have any information on this; but today, while searching for some other stuff, I ran across the following:

Br_funcs.exe is using 80% CPU capacity - ThinkVantage Rescue and Recovery

IBM Rescue and Recovery with Rapid Restore - Backup is running, but the progress bar is not advancing

thanks for the info, I had already seen those tech notes. What I did find was that if I manually run the backup, and let it create another backup set, it works fine.

However, if it tries to delete an old backup set, it hangs.

It looks like the backup files are hidden on the USB drive I'm using, is there any way to find them and delete them?

Man I miss my Mac. :-)

From a previous post of mine:
I was just in Safe Mode. I could open and look at the files and folders in C:\RRbackups . I could not do this logged on as Administrator in Normal Mode - I would get: Access Denied. But in Safe Mode I was able to browse the directory with Explorer. Note that you have to have everything unhid in Folder Options to see the directory.
Rescue and Recovery/Rapid Restore Ultra are not that great. You are better off cloning your hard drive with something like Acronis, or using other backup software such as Stompsoft Backup MyPC.

thanks again for the info - i've got a copy of retrospect express that I'm going to use, but it looks like IBM hides the backup files on my external hard drive (the actual archives themselves).

Do you know how to delete the previous backups created with RRU so I can clear out disk space?
