t42 spill

#1 Post by cjgogo » Thu Sep 07, 2006 11:44 pm

Help!

I spilled a small amount of garlicy water (10ml, top left part of keyboard) on my wife's T42 while it was on. After I dryed it off, shutdown and tried to reboot it wouldn't turn on. No charge light or any lights go on now.

Sent to local Lenovo service center and they charged me $50 to look at it. For that, he basically tried to start up with an external monitor. Didn't work and he tells me that it's dead and buy a new notebook. He didn't do any other diagnostics. I feel a little ripped off because I did that before sending it in.

Is there anything I could try or test to revive the notebook?

Any help would be appreciated! The wife is mad!!

Thanks

CJ

There might be still some water inside!!
Just open it up and lay it by an open window for a couple of days.
And then try to turn it on. Most drowned thinkpads will relive again.

If it doesn't work, try to remove some unnecessary components, e.g. wifi card, moden card.

If it still doesn't work, try to replace the motherboard.
