Get your Thinkpad Fix here!
I need help. You see, I've been checking these boards with unhealthy regularity. I'm in that weird spot...between decision making and problem solving...My 2373KTU is on the way and I can't get my fill of whats "good" about my Thinkpad! So I figured this could be a place where positive Thipad vibes could flourish. Short and to the point is cool, so tell me why you love your Thinkpad!

The design of the Thinkpad just makes sense. Other manufacturers make the case look flashy with swooping curves and bright shiny plastic.
When you use a thinkpad you begin to notice the little touches that make the product better, not flashier.
The ridge around the lid fits around the bottom of the laptop to make it stronger when it is closed.
The function keys, page up and down key group and arrow keys are separated out to make them easier to find by feel. (Most laptops just have a solid rectangle full of oddly placed and shaped keys.)
The software that is bundled is mostly useful stuff instead of garbage shoveled at you because they have a marketing deal with some other company. (Access Connections, Battery Maximiser, and Presentation Manager all fill holes in the functionality of Windows XP.)
If you press on the back of the display you don't see the rainbow effect caused by pressure on the LCD panel.
Even the placement of the keys used to turn on the ThinkLight (keyboard light) makes sense. What could be easier to find in the dark than the lower left key and the upper right key?
UltraNav (trackpoint and touchpad combo) is just better than the pointing components on other laptops.

I love mine because of the thought that went into it. Say I'm watching a movie on the TV that is hooked up to my TP42P via S-video. The lcd dims out after a couple of minutes and then eventually blacks out but the TV never even blinks. I've had laptops that would black out every screen in a "kill a mosquito with a hammer" approach. The word that applies to the TP is Class. You have the TP on your lap and jerk and the HD pauses for a sec. What's your data worth (plus the time it would take to replace it). Having seperate dedicated volume controls is really thoughtful. And of course the feel of the construction.

Well, I certainly saw that with the 2378FVU I just returned (the rainbow effect from light pressure on the LCD cover). Also one dead pixel and backlight leakage from the bezel. Also, very, very narrow viewing angles. (display was IDTech, can a 2378FVU be a Samsung?? If yes, how likely??) I posted about this and a 2379DXU that I was also not pleased with in another post.
So, my questions then are:
1.) Are these defects and limitations NOT common for the 2378FVU ??? (i.e. did I just get a bad one) or how unlikely would it be to get these problems if I order another one (especially the viewing angles)??
2.) Would these problems be more likely in a 2378FVU because it is a heavily discounted unit??
Also, I am in no way whatsoever "bashing" the T-series or IBM. I had read nothing but great reviews until I got the two that have been returned. I simply don't know what to do or get now.
If you want to read all of my "gripes" with the 2378FVU and the 2379DXU I returned, please read the thread:
