Of course you can!!!
I would do it sometime before the year is up (but you can still purchase the warranty after your year is up).
Here is a list of warranty upgrades (for the US):
http://www-132.ibm.com/webapp/wcs/store ... 93&x=6&y=4

You can check your warranty status here (click on Warranty Status and it will read your system and give you the info):
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... edirect.do
X21 (upgrade: 384MB ram 60GB 7200rpm)
T42 2378-DXU (upgrade: 1.5GB ram 60GB 7200rpm)
Z60m 2531-MTU (upgrade: 2GB ram)

Humpa - thanks for that. On the warranty upgrades page you posted it does not show the T42. The T42 I have comes with a 3 year warranty and I'm thinking about extending it - do you know if this is possible, or who I would contact to find out if the 3 yrs is extendable? Thanks.

even thogh the T42 is not listed, it has the same upgrade options as the T41..... you can upgrade your warrenty to on-site, and/or upgrade it tto 4 or 5 years max.
