T43 not detecting when docked and changing hardware profile.

#1 Post by twin_decks » Mon Sep 11, 2006 3:10 am

Hi,

My T43 does not seem to auto detect the docking station so that it can automatically switch to a docked hardware profile.

All the features of the docking station (74P6733) work correcly (VGA, USB, Network ..) but XP has no idea that it is docked.

Why is this a problem to me ?
- Well I frequently move between docked and undocked situations and I find that it is not easy to get the laptop to have a different hardware profile.

The instructions provided were simple, but assume XP will auto detect the station. I have tried different T43 laptops and different docking stations, what am I doing wrong.

Any advice ?

Your problem is that you dont own a dock but only a port replicator

Profile change is only supported on docking stations (Mini Dock or Dock II)

I'm in the same situation. I find I have manually go in and change my screen settings depending on if I'm running laptop only or when I'm docked with external monitor(19"widescreen). Is there a better solution?

I found another post recommending using presentation director to setup a profile so I did that. I had to download the latest version of PD because the original didn't have a 1440x900 setting.
Unfortunately this external monitor isn't as sharp as the laptop screen :( but it's in a better ergonomic position.
