Difference between T41 SXGA and T41p?

#1 Post by silo » Wed Sep 13, 2006 3:26 am

I'm thinking of buying a T41p but there are some interesting possibilities for an SXGA T41 (no "p") -- what am I missing by going with the lesser setup?

Thanks--

Hmmm T4x(p) have a higher screen resolution - USXGA - 1600x1200 and probably better VGA Card. In my opinion USGXA is worth to buy.

My friend - get your facts straight.

The T41 series that the OP talks about is only available in 14.1" - thus the highest its resolution can be is SXGA+ (1400x1050)

Main difference between T41p and T41 SXGA+
1) FireGL 128MB vs at best 9000 64Mb
2) 60GB 7200rpm vs 5400rpm drive
3) Bluetooth
4) wifi a/b/g (atheros)
5) Gigabit ethernet
T400 14.1" WXGA+ LCD / T9400 / 4GB / 160gb / ATi+Intel GFX / 9C / W7 64
T42p 14" SXGA+ / 2.0GHz / 1.5GB / 60GB / 2 x 6C / XP
T40 14" XGA / 1.7GHz / 1GB / 40GB / 9C / XP

Only 2373-GEx (or other customized) are atheros. Others are centrino machines with intel 2100.

Also, not all T41p's have the 60gb 72000 drive.

If you afford the difference in cost go with the T41p.

Well, I have an 80G 7200 drive I'm going to put in, don't want Bluetooth, it has WiFi (but I don't know if it's a/b/g), and don't know about the ethernet, so the loss boils down to the video card?

I think the one I'm looking at is 32M ATI Radeon 9000 (not good?).

Depends, it's good enough to display pictures on the screen and play minesweeper with yeah. But the Fire GL T2 although pretty decent, is still nothing to use to do more than some graphics work and play some old games with.

Still, I can't complain about the T41p, excellent screen apart from the 1 stuck pixel that appeared today. Wireless doesn't seem to be as sensitive as other laptops though, it won't detect my neighbours wireless or the neighbouring school's wireless.

the fire gl card is not good to play newer games with? I beg to differ. I play Warcraft all the time and the cpu doesnt even get close to too hot, not to mention graphics are stunning for a laptop. Graphics actually rival those put out by my ati 8500 card on my desktop. The fire gl card is definitely worth the extra money.

I also beg to differ, for a laptop this is great - this is why I bought this laptop, a good judge of the laptop's making seems to be it's graphics, most maufacturers skimp on this, especially for non desktop replacements, it seems to be a non issue to them. And for a thin and light laptop this is a very brilliant one. I love it.

However, comparing this to a 8500... that card is so old... I'm quite certain that the Fire GL in fact outperforms it. It's a 4 pipeline architecture on the 9600 engine (I ran one for quite awhile, which is a pretty good engine). Yes, it is underclocked.

I'm definitely pleased to have it over the 7500 and 9000 and 9600 Mobility chips, because it's a lot better quality. Fire GL always are.

wrong card, i got the x850xt which is not an old card at all. 256gddrr3, 16 pipelines. That is a sweet card for $150 dollars, makes old poor games like starcraft look awesome. If only i could get the driver situation settled I think it would run even better and quieter!

Yeh, missing that 'x' off the beginning certainly makes the performance jump heh.

I don't think a thin and light laptop can or should have an over powerful graphics card. I mean... I can play Quake3...and Age of Empires II on this, and that's more than enough for me.

It did only get around 8000 3DMarks in 2001SE, which put me off a bit since my sister's Acer Aspire 5022Wlmi (X700 128MB) gets more than my desktop!

yes, 8500 and an x850 are very much diff cards. I love my fireglt2 thats in my t42p. It runs AOE great and im thrilled with the graphics in warcraft. That game has so much dimension to it, there are so many angles and the card never slows down or anything. Im thoroughly pleased with it.

Which Warcraft are you on about? WoW, WI, II, III?

I do love them all, although WoW sucks the life out of you. Warcraft I and II are nice and fun but not exactly graphical beasts and Warcraft 3 is both beautiful and a whole different game than a lot of real time strategies.
