Whats wrong with my Sound on my t42p?

#1 Post by SpunkyXL » Wed Sep 13, 2006 11:02 pm

Something strange is going on with my T42P. My soundcard has been fine for the past year , but now it just dissapears at times. I play a song, than about 15 min later my soundcard is gone from the system. I go to adjust my volume and everything is greyed out, no sound devices installed message appears. I reinstalled the sound drivers, and same thing. The only way sound appears again is when I reboot, and after 15 min it goes away again. I even reformatted, reinstalled XP on my laptop, and the same [censored] thing happens again! I have all the latest drivers from the IBM Website, I even ran that tool where it DL's and install all the drivers.

What makes this even more strange is that, I actually bought a USB Turtle Beach soundcard. I thought my t42's built in snd card was shot so I bought the USB sound card. And guess what happens, the SAME THING. The Turtle Beach works, than 15 min later it dissappears. WTF is going on?

And, I forgot... Even stranger is, that the SOUND WORKS for website sounds. I can go to youtube and watch videos online. But for mp3's, avi's etc it will not play! WTF!

Some virus??

Even though you say you've reinstalled Windows, but It could be some file that may act as a virus just to mess with your patience. Since you say this happen every 15min after booting, this is likely the reason of your problem.

Reinstall XP, do not backup your documents, copy only a MP3 file and let it repeat after it's finished. If after 15 minutes the sound is still OK, then you should check very throughly your personal documents.

I doubt it's a virus..I ran a coup of virus apps and didnt find anything.. I already formated my HD and reinstalled XP..Looks like I found another temp solution to this issue..Everytime the Snd card dissapears I go to Device Manager and re-install it, and it works without rebooting..but I cant be doing this every 15-20 min..man..You think I should send this to IBM?
