Security Chip Password/Passphrase lost!

#1 Post by slowfighter » Fri Sep 15, 2006 3:05 pm

Can I delete all content of Security Chip if I lost my password/passphrase?
I have a T43p (2668-Q1G) with BIOS 1.24
On first boot, if I enter in the BIOS Setup using F1, I see under Security menu the option to Clear Security Chipset... but I'm very worried: ask it the old password/passphrase before cleaning it?

You can clear the security chip. No password is required to do this.
After you clear the security chip, all encrypted data on the machine will be unavailable -- all encrypted data on the machine will be lost forever.

Must I delete my fingerprints before?
Must I uninstall anything before?
Thank you very much :-)

When you clear it it should wipe out all your fingerprints and delete all your saved passwords for you.

You do remember the passwords to get into Windows, etc., right?

And you did read the bit about any encrypted data being permanently unavailable, forever, no way to recover it, forget it, don't even bother to ask, right?

As long as you are sure you know all your stored passwords and don't have any encrypted data you ever want to see again, just go for it.

I deleted the fingerprints and removed all the passwords, I was tired of it

Now on bootup it asked the password for some reason, I put in the passwords I used in case fingerprints didn't work with no luck, I put in the supervisor password with no luck..

I'm worried...

what can I do?

Don't worry...

Uninstall CSS

If you have the older version of Rescue and Recovery (RnR), it is a combination package of RnR and CSS...uninstall it if you don't have the newest RnR.

Don't reinstall CSS

Use current Fingerprint reader (FPR) software...5.5.

You will need to enter your login password for the FPR software
