T43 Standby instead of Hibernate sometimes

#1 Post by martin_nv » Sat Sep 16, 2006 1:26 pm

Sometimes when I press Fn-F12 my T43 goes into standby mode instead of Hibernate mode. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason. I've done a bit of research and installed Microsoft fix KB909095 but that didn't seem to help. My computer has 1.5 gb of ram. Anyone else have this problem?
Thanks.

Yah, it happens occassionally to me too.

You'll notice that the Hibernate option in Task Manager will dim too (be unselectable).

Rebooting fixes it.

I'm wondering whether it's a program (like the Defrag?) that is temporarily disabling Hibernation mode....

Microsoft has a HotFix available:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=909095

Does this help?

edit: I now see that you've already tried that hotfix. Doh!

Yes I did install that particular hotfix, but it didn't seem to help. Is there a way to tell which hotfixes have been installed? I'm wondering if it didn't install properly somehow.

@martin_nv, you can see in the add/remove programs which hotfixes are installed. Alternatively you can open a dos box and enter:

wmic qfe | find "909095"

If the hotfix is installed, you will get information about this hotfix.

I have the same issues btw. I just installed the hotfix. Now I need to test if this will solve the issue.

Thanks for the WMIC command Senser, I didn't know about that. It does say that 909095 is installed unfortunately, so it doesn't fix the problem for me. Let us know if it fixes it for you.

I might found a solution. Since I disabled DLA on my CD/RW drive, the system hibernated every time since.

Maybe that's something you could try.

What Senser suggests works. I too had this problem (see here), but after disabling the DLA I've not had a repeat of the problem.

hi

microsoft have too diffrent pach.

one for 1g ram and another for 2 g ram

but this dont help if you change option in system manager for usage memory. There is two option:

memory for programs and memory for system. If you check option "memory for system" hibernation dont work,
W500 @ T9900, 7K750, 2GB ITM as TMP
now W500, W700, X301, X120e,T43p
before T23, T40, T43p*2, T61p*3 (I hate Nvidia),
Total solution for absolutely ZERO oscillatory noise in t4x
