Question about Hard drive upgrade

#1 Post by Scuzzzed » Sat Aug 21, 2004 6:15 pm

I own a T42. I have question about upgrading my hard drive.
Ibm sells a 80GB hard drive for around 399 dollars, to be used with Ultrabay for additional storage. But it mentions that the drive can be used as a the primary drive. How is that? Can you open the thinkpad and replace the drive? Also i noticed that places like ebay sell the Travelstar 80GN for less that 200 hundred. Are they a good alternative. I would rather not cash out 400 bucks, but really need the extra space. :(

The only part that easier to replace than the harddrive is the trackpoint cap. :)
Here's a good starting url at ibm:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... edirect.do
You can find all the Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU) documentation in the "Installation/removal instructions" link on the above page.

I buy a lot of stuff on ebay(buyer beware, of course), but you can get a Travelstar 80GN pretty cheap at someplace like newegg.com or zipzoomfly.com too.
