Complete T42 software update. Howto?

#1 Post by real_per » Sat Sep 16, 2006 11:22 pm

My T42 is almost completely bogged down, so I think I'm at the point, where the best thing to do is to revert the system to a fresh install...

I bought my machine shortly before IBM was bought by Lenovo, and after running the software installer I still have some IBM programs on my PC. I'd like to have the machine fully upgraded to as if it just came out of the factory. Can I do this myself, or will i have to send it to Lenovo ?

You should be able to start the machine from a cold start, press the Blue Access IBM button and recover your machine to out-of-the-box condition. If that doesn't work, try pressing F11 when you start. Make certain that you back up your data first. Then read my Sticky in Windows OS on how to prevent this situation from happening in the first case. Good luck. ... JD Hurst

Ok, thanks alot.

And running the software installer after resetting the machine will upgrade everything to Lenovo Thinkvantage ?

Because otherwise i was thinking about getting the newest set of Recovery CD's for the T42....

Strongly suggest you burn your set of Product Recovery CD's (all 7 of them). If your HDD ever die, you can still pop in a new HDD & start over.

I also got my T42s (2373-K5H) in Nov'04, months before Lenovo bought out Thinkpad brand...

Sometimes I wish all my software had Lenovo brand on them straight from Product Recovery CD's...
